i may be picky or i may have an off eye but for some reason a lot of fox mounts look "fake" to me. in looking for a taxi mount i want the fox to look as if it was standing right there in my living room. for some reason i see only a few of these that i like. thats why im curious on what a lot of you guys charge or have been charged. foxtrapperwoman: i really like that mount. the fox looks as if it is really standing on that wood pile looking at a bird or something. thats what im looking for. seems likke you say it's gonna be a bit over 400 how about a -pedestal mount of a fox? in the past iv only seen about 3 that i think looked "real" im sure someone on here has a pedestal fox mount that they are proud of: show em off. if you dont mind what you paid for as well/or/in the ballpark of.

thanks for the responses guys

With any fox, cat or coyote be carefull who you take it to. look at what they have in the shop and any photos they have. a well taxied fox will run about 400 bucks.
not only those items but with anything that you have done, you should see a few samples of different taxis work and compare quality....and i charge $400+ depending on how crazy people get with the mount and base they want

not a red, but here is an example of what I have been saying for years. You don't HAVE TO pay a lot to get quality work, you just need to find the guy/gal who is not looking to get rich, but just wants to make a living. This mount cost me $285 and was returned to me about a year ago. I did have to wait 2 years to get it back, but with low prices and this quality, you can see why. Don't buy into the price=quality game, ask for pics and lots of them, then decide from there. Best of luck

This is probably the most realistic fox I've ever seen. If I'm lucky enough to get one I'll be sure to contact you to see who did it....EXCELLENT!

Here's an old "classic" red fox mount as well as a coyote pedestal mount. I seem to be doing more pedestals on both coyotes and foxes than I am full mounts any more.
Like Steph and others have said, "You get what you pay for". Don't just price shop through the phone book, Visit the studios and ask for references.

I agree...this is a great looking mount. In my opinion it looks a lot better than the one that foxtrapperwoman says should cost $400+.

i think all of us would like to know a bit more about your red fox mount JoeSimmons. it looks very unique in a great way. i'v never seen a red so fluffy. is it out of state?? what time of year.

i'v caught reds right around this time of year take today for example a fox should be at his most prime of fur right now early-mid december a fox is "PRIME"...still never to be as fluffy as that sucker.

None of us taxidermists are rich, most of us just squeeze by, so paying 400+ for a fox mount is not making us rich. Those of us who do it for a living/partial living rather than as the hobby of a retired person with a pension ( or disabled person on SSI- or whatever)...well we are trying to make a living. Please look at it this way. The grey fox is nicely done, and the person is obviously doing it for fun rather than to make a living. It is the consumer's choice wether to have this person do it for 285.00, or want to support a fellow HuntPA member who is trying to make a living at 400+. There is alot of overhead if you do this for a living. We have to buy our own health insurance for one. With the economy slowing down the amount of work I get in and crippling my efforts of selling mounts and furs on ebay for a decent price ( I did quick production work and sold at wholesale on ebay- the in-shop stuff has more time and detail put in, plus more expensive earliners and whatnot), I have had to ask my father for money.

Also check out OutdoorDreamer's mounts, she may be young, but her work is great. I have no idea what she charges, but no doubt she wants to be able to make a living doing taxidermy and other forms of art.

I understand this, but the problem I have is that everytime someone posts that they had a deer mount done for $300, or a coyote for $300, etc, you and a couple other taxidermists jump on the thread right away questioning the quality of the work that goes with that price. Here is an example from when I posted that I paid $300 for a coyote (by the way, the taxidermist is retired and is doing it to pay for guided/outfitted hunts):

I really don't feel bad for you needing to borrow money from your dad to make ends meet...you chose your path in life.
