i have a few whole reds in the freezer and was thinkin to get one mounted this year. what do you taxidermy guys normally charge for a full red mount. and even the pedestal mounts as well?
not only those items but with anything that you have done, you should see a few samples of different taxis work and compare quality....and i charge $400+ depending on how crazy people get with the mount and base they wanthunter4095 said:With any fox, cat or coyote be carefull who you take it to. look at what they have in the shop and any photos they have. a well taxied fox will run about 400 bucks.
Well said.you just need to find the guy/gal who is not looking to get rich, but just wants to make a living.
This is probably the most realistic fox I've ever seen. If I'm lucky enough to get one I'll be sure to contact you to see who did it....EXCELLENT!4c_game_chaser said:not a red, but here is an example of what I have been saying for years. You don't HAVE TO pay a lot to get quality work, you just need to find the guy/gal who is not looking to get rich, but just wants to make a living. This mount cost me $285 and was returned to me about a year ago. I did have to wait 2 years to get it back, but with low prices and this quality, you can see why. Don't buy into the price=quality game, ask for pics and lots of them, then decide from there. Best of luck
I agree...this is a great looking mount. In my opinion it looks a lot better than the one that foxtrapperwoman says should cost $400+.runningdeer said:This is probably the most realistic fox I've ever seen. None of us taxidermists are rich, most of us just squeeze by, so paying 400+ for a fox mount is not making us rich. Those of us who do it for a living/partial living rather than as the hobby of a retired person with a pension ( or disabled person on SSI- or whatever)...well we are trying to make a living. Please look at it this way. The grey fox is nicely done, and the person is obviously doing it for fun rather than to make a living. It is the consumer's choice wether to have this person do it for 285.00, or want to support a fellow HuntPA member who is trying to make a living at 400+. There is alot of overhead if you do this for a living. We have to buy our own health insurance for one. With the economy slowing down the amount of work I get in and crippling my efforts of selling mounts and furs on ebay for a decent price ( I did quick production work and sold at wholesale on ebay- the in-shop stuff has more time and detail put in, plus more expensive earliners and whatnot), I have had to ask my father for money.4c_game_chaser said:not a red, but here is an example of what I have been saying for years. I understand this, but the problem I have is that everytime someone posts that they had a deer mount done for $300, or a coyote for $300, etc, you and a couple other taxidermists jump on the thread right away questioning the quality of the work that goes with that price. Here is an example from when I posted that I paid $300 for a coyote (by the way, the taxidermist is retired and is doing it to pay for guided/outfitted hunts):foxtrapperwoman said:None of us taxidermists are rich, most of us just squeeze by, so paying 400+ for a fox mount is not making us rich.
