Who's heading out Monday with a handgun? And what are ya shooting?
I'll be in Ohio with my super black hawk, looking to tag a nice buck. Back in PA on the saturdays, I'll be looking for a doe with my GP-100. I am really pumped from shooting so well my last trip to the range.
I will be using one of my encores or contenders.I have a few new ones that I would like to use if I can work up a good load before the opener. The black encore is a 460 S&Wmag and the con10der is a 35 Rem.
I have a Ruger Super Redhawk .44 mag with open sights.
I've taken it with me, but never had the opportunity to take a deer with it. Use 300 grain Hornady XTP's.
Usually have enough crap I'm carrying in and opt not to carry an extra 6 pounds, but I do carry it on drives in the real thick stuff.
I found if I carry a rifle and my pistol the rifle always seems to go off first. I have taken 1 large doe with my .357 shooting Rem 125 gr hollow points.
I'll have two with me. For the long stuff, past 100yds., a Rem. XP100-R in 260 Rem w/ a 2x6 scope and for the close stuff, under 100yds. a Bisley Vaquero 45 Colt w/ 335 gr. cast.
Sad to say I won't be using the handgun this season. I did not have the practice time this year, so I can't ethically see myself doing it. I have taken 12 deer with the .44 Super Red and my handloads over the years, and can still shoot it very well, but I usually put 300-400 rounds downrange over a couple of months to be ready. I just wouldn't feel right to go out in the next couple of days and put a couple of boxes on target and say that I am as "ready" as I should be... Good luck to all of you!!!
Smith 629 Mountain gun for the first week along with whatever rifle I decide on. If and when I get a buck, will take my Redhawk 7.5" with UltraDot red dot for a possible doe.
