Looking for a good pair of rubber boots for deer hunting. (Mostly sitting in a stand, but need to cross a few creeks) How to the Muck boots rate for warmth. Can you compare them to grams of thinsulate??
How do they compare vs a 1600 gram thinsulate cabelas boot?
Don't know if you can compare them to grams of thinsulate ,but they have for the most part cured my cold feet problem. I have the one's that are rated to -40 they make a pair rated to -60. Just make sure you get them large enough, they run small as compared to leather boots. Get at least one size larger than your normal leather boot size you can always add socks if they are too big.
I won't buy any other boots than Mucks! Only boot I've ever found that kept my feet warm. I've tried 1000 gram Rockies and they didn't come close to the Woody Max Muck boots. They also make Artic's...but I stay with the Woody Max's
You don't need to spend the extra money on the real cold weather muck boots, I have a pair that are the thinner muck boots and I just throw a hand warmer in each on cold days that I sit all day and my problem is solved for 1/2 the price
I have my Arctic Sports to be all I need for stand hunting. I have a pair of Rocky Extreme PAC boots that haven't been used since I bought the Mucks 6'years ago.
I like my muckboots, I own both artic sports and the muckmaster boots (I think the woody-max is just a camo version of the artic sport, but not 100%)
I think you would be happy with either, if I was only going to buy one pair and use them specifically for anything bear season and later I would buy the artic sports then take a few pairs of socks, walk in in one pair switch to a warmer pair on stand as needed.
If I was going to use them year round for different odd jobs, i'd go with the muckmasters and adjust socks accordingly.
I have 4 pairs of Mucks.I have one for cleaning the barn,a lighter pair for archery,a pair of Woody max and I just bought a low pair that I had to special order. It's like the camp boot but has a lug sole.
I had the Arctic Sport for years before I got the Arctic Pro and the Pro is great for the real cold sits. If you have a store that sell then go try them on to see what size fits best, if you plan on getting them online. Also the Muck boot is a lot lighter to walk around in.
If your feet have a tendency to sweat, do NOT buy Muck boots. I prefer a good pair of GoreTex boots over any type of rubber/neoprene style boot. Your feet will NOT breathe in them.
I sort of agree with BigDawger. I am not probe to sweating so I have found my Muck boots suprisingly warm. They don't breathe like a lot of other boots though. For sitting you should be good.
muck boots are great. I have the wetlands and with a good pair of socks i have yet to be cold and we duck/goose hunt in some pretty nasty stuff. they are not very good if you like to do a lot of walking my feet tend to slide around to much in them. But all in all dag on great boots.
Never had a problem with cold feet with mucks BUT while most disagree, they don't last for me. I'm lucky to get 2 yrs out of a pair before they start coming apart. Granted I use them a lot. They usually separate at the sole
Currently I have a cabelas instinct pair for colder weather and a lacrosse rubber for warmer conditions. The lacrosse after a year leak if submerged.
I have a pair of Arctic Pro boots, they will keep your feet warm no matter how cold it gets. The rest of your body will get cold on a frigid day before your feet do.
I too can,t find any shoe or boot or sock that can keep my feet from sweating at any time of year.
