I like to wear a tight fitting, not to tight, pair of liner gloves under a pair of green military wool gloves. The green wool come in different sizes as well to get a good fit.
if you can find them Seal Skinz think thats how it was spelled. Cabelas used to carry them but not at Hamburg anymore. fairly warm and waterproof without much bulk. I use mine from ducks to icefishing.
During the Korean war the military used a wool mitten insert that provided a trigger finger and thumb "stall". This wool insert went into a leather over-mitten configured the same way. You could put all fingers together in the mit to retain warmth but could also free up the thumb and trigger finger as needed. Look on the web for military surplus vendors.

I have a pair of seal skinz. I have the gloves and socks. I got them off ebay last year. They do work great. For my feet I use a set of wool socks over the top. They are waterproof and do keep my feet warm. The gloves are waterproof and for me comfortable.

I was never too proud. I went to hunting mittens in cold weather. Besides, who's going to ask you if you're a first grader in the woods.
