Pens have extended contracts of Bylsma and his staff. -DP
Unreal
AWESOME...............it wouldn't be so bad if the guy would admit failure, and implement some changes. But no, he goes with the theory that, if you smash your head into a brick wall enough times, eventually it will break through. I can't wait to see more of his garabage pond hockey system...........everyone will just trap to death, and eliminate the stretch pass, and take advantage of the fact that our d-men get to pretend they are forwards............unreal, totally unreal

The Pens were 44-19 under Bylsma this year. Four wins from being in the final. I call that a good season. If he had failed to make the playoffs then I could see him being fired, but come on his record as a coach speaks for itself. This team is not in a rebuilding mode and still has two of the best players in the world on its team.

The problem lies in the fact that Disco refuses to adapt to situations as a coach.............as soon as a team can go into a trap, and prevent the ice length stretch pasees, the Pens are pretty much done, and he refuses to find some kind of system to break the trap, the reliance is all on the long pass........if D-men are forced to try and skate through the trap, they end up turning the puck over, or go for the stretch pass resulting in a turnover IE: Letang, and Engelland against the B's.........

Sure, SID and GENO didn't score, or have an outstanding series against the B's but for Pete's sake, the coach could try and do something to help them out a little bit.......it doesn't matter how good the players are, if they are playing in a broken system......

I dunno......
Dans a good guy but i think a avg coach. Im ok with another year.

Regarding not making playoffs or losing after going deep....guess im wierd but i find it harder when they go to eastern finals and lose. So close yet so far.

Shero also said Fleury is a our guy next year and will work on getting better mentally and fundamentally. The Pens are fun to watch in the regular season, but not in the playoffs. They seam to find a way to collapse. They need to change some if they want too win the cup. Disco also sounds like he isn`t going to change much.

Yeah, I have to say.... I am happy that Geno didnt hit us much more than he was before. Class act on his part. Now they just need to free up some space.... hmmmmmmmm.

Not happy at all about the Disco Dan move... but oh well.

Disco, I think that may have came from Mark Madden but dont quote me on that. Crankshaft, not sure.

Bylsma earned the nickname "Disco Dan". The nickname was adopted by teammates while playing for a minor league team in Phoenix. Veteran goaltender Byron Dafoe already went by Bylsma's former moniker of "Bysie" so the name "Disco Dan" was given due to Bylsma's penchant for dancing in the locker room

After a week to digest I'm OK with the Bylsma retention as well as the Malkin re-sign. I wanted them both out in the best of the moment. I'm also (stupidly) willing to give Fluery another crack with a different coach. I just hope they higher someone that makes him a little uncomfortable. In reality, like Shero said today, who else are you going to find long term that is going to give you top 3 wins in the league every year. Who knows if a new coaching will help but I'm willing to give it a shot. Just shake him up a little and change the routine.

The Malkin thing is a good thing. While I felt he needed to lead his own team I've changed that thought. Not only from a goal scoring standpoint but also from a marketing standpoint he's just so important. Good move at that price if you ask me. No brainer. Minnesota paid that much for Parise last Spring and he couldnt wrap tape on Malkins stick.

Bylsma.....this was the biggest one I needed a week to sleep on but in the end you had to extend him. Fastest coach to 200 wins, playoffs every year, favored every year, and at least offensively the teams been great. Even against Boston there were all sorts of awesome chances and they missed and hit posts and just screwed up. That's the players and not danno. Where he needs help is on defensive coaching. I understand that the best defense is having the puck in the other teams end but when its not there needs to be super responsible play....something that's been lacking for years. Like Bootoxen says, I'm OK with another year. I just don't see how on earth we're going to do better.
So into the next issue.....Letang. This is were I make a big change. I work hard to move Letang for a rock solid stay at home and cap space. Yes letang is gifted but he is going to command 7-8 mil a season and his liabilities make that completely unwise. He's replaceable with Depress and to be honest I prefer a Paul Martin style of offensive player to a totally offensive player like letang. We need guys that play defense. Letang was never meant to play there. He's also a very immature person which I will get to soon. We have enough maturity issues. I trade him either this off season or at the deadline next year.

Now with all the said and all these signing taking place the Pens have won their last title in a long long time unless Crosby grows up into a man finally. Malkin fits that mold too as does Letang bigtime if they keep him. But Crosby is the captain and it all starts with the golden boy. I'm not sure its a stretch to say that he is the worst captain in the league. Not because of production obviously but for the example he sets. Plus he's only 24! There should be no 24 yo captains on this team. Its like the inmates running the asylum. The problem is that he never had to earn it. It was just given to him for who he is. Without question Brooks Orpik should wear the C and if he did thinks would be a bit different I think. Its time though that sid starts being the 'C' and stops being a little silver spoon punk that he is in ever post season. So you can forget all these moves because until the Pens start coming across as men out there you've seen the last title. Until they can skate away from a scum you've seen the last title. Until Bylsma changes the vacation atmosphere you've seen the last title. Its the biggest problem and will remain the biggest problem. I don't expect that to change but I guess disco holds those cards. We'll see.
