Right now, here in Centre County, there are lots wild onions or garlic, I'm not sure of the right name for them, coming up.

They have bunches of very thin, dark green shoots or leaves coming up. They look like chives.

Do you all eat them, cook with them etc.?

Ever since I was a kid, I've just pulled off a few and eaten them. They have a strong flavor.

I actually sit and eat wild onions raw right out of the ground. Peel off the outermost level and the dirt comes with it. I like them. Also, the stems can be used kinda like chives. I roasted a hindquarter of a young deer in beer with a bunch of chopped up onion grass for a potluck dinner, even the vegetarians couldn't stop eating it!

When I was maybe 8-10, a Few of us in the Neighborhood used to get Wiffleball games going in the alley between the houses... 1 of the guy's had that wild garlic or onions which ever it was growing all thru his yard, We used to pull a lot of the tops of it and ball it up and stick it in our cheeks and chew it like chewing tobacco.....We called it "Boogieman Chew" and we spit Green...

We all thought it was the Greatest thing and we felt we were like the Big League Baseball players we watched on TV with the Big Chew of tobacco in their cheeks when they were out on the fields..

Never tried it since then but from what I remember, the tops were not all that bad of a taste!
