Elk viewing destination?

Thinking about going out to view some Pa elk and was wondering if anyone can give me any ideas of where to go. Planning on going in September, and looking into pitching a tent. Definitely don't want to stay in a campground, just looking into walking in on public land, setting up a tent and go see some elk. Is there any areas someone could suggest?. Any info would by appreciated. Thanks

Re: Elk viewing destination?

Thru fishing season a lot of people camp out along Medix run (creek). You can also camp on top of Quehanna.

Think before you share your thoughts!!!

Near Benezette there are lots of elk to view . That time of year is quite an attraction since the bulls are bugling . The days of just setting up in state forests has changed some over the years. You must obtain a permit to camp . You will certainly see elk there and visit the new Elk Center . Have a great trip.

Enjoy each day afield as if it were your last.....take the time to take it all in !

You can camp without a permit as long as it is primitive camping. I think you are only allowed to stay at each spot for a night to stay within the law as far as the non permit.
