Campfire Cooking Recipes

Looking for your campfire cooking recipes. Foil packs, etc. My favorite thing at camp is cooking steak and eating it with foil pack onions. Large vadalia onion (sliced) thrown in a foil pack with a hlaf stock of butter, two beef bullion cubes, and any seasoning desired. The onions break down to nearly an onion sauce for the steak. Amazing.

Re: Campfire Cooking Recipes

We recently saw this recipe in a hunting Magazine and tried it, it was awesome. Its a desert, made in a dutch oven.
Its called "dump in desert". You just take 3 cans of pie filling, two dry cake mixes, a stick of butter chopped up, and a can of 7-up. Dump it all in, mix it up, put the lid on and bake in the coals for 1 hour. We loved it. I used apple pie filling and vanilla cake mix.

I love beer brats

In a foil pan I put beer, brats, onion and butter. Boil for a little then brown on grill over fire. Serve on a bun with your choice of topping

I cook this over the fire at camp all the time

Re: Campfire Cooking Recipes

Joe that sounds good. May get the dutch oven out and do that for Thanksgiving.

Re: Campfire Cooking Recipes

I bet you will love it, heck you can't mess it up! I had an idea for Thanksgiving for it, its funny you said that. I was thinking pumkin pie filling, applesauce cake mix, and maybe some chunks of cream cheese? If anything, it will give me an excuse to play outside that day!

Re: Campfire Cooking Recipes

Hey Joe I was thinking along that line. Instead of applesauce cake ,I am trying a carrot cake, pumpkin pie filling, pumpkin pie spice, and maybe cream cheese or a stick of butter. Or along your line pumpkin, applesauce cake mix and a jar of applesauce, oh yes a couple large spoonfuls of apple butter to flavor it up. Man what combo's we can come up with. Goluck, GREAT EATING.

Re: Campfire Cooking Recipes

Your idea sounds better! You can put just about anything in a dutch oven and I'll be happy with it !

Re: Campfire Cooking Recipes

I freeze ground venison in quart freezer bags about 1/2" thick. Had two guys coming to camp who never had venison. I put two squares on 2 squares of HD foil and added marg, cut up potatoes, baby carrots, salt and pepper and closed them up.

Cooked them on coals while grilling my last deer steak above in a grilling basket.

They practically licked their plates clean!

Now that I have them eating it, I need to get them hunting too!
