ANF black flys

Is it just me or were the black flys especially bad over memorial day weekend? I was at Tracy Ridge for a day hike and by the half way mark I really just wanted out of the woods and away from the flys.

Re: ANF black flys

We camped near Gaines on Pine Creek and the flies were bad there also. Luckily we had 2 20" box fans and we brought them outside and turned them on high. The breeze was enough to keep the flies away from the picnic table and seats around the picnic table. It made the stay much more bearable.

Our forefathers didn't bury their guns. They buried those that tried to take them.

We were on sgl #14 in Cameron Co last weekend and the flies and gnats were unbearable. Never seen it so bad.
I live in the woods here in Centre Co and we have no gnats, no mosquitos, and very few flies this year. Record rain for both areas. What gives?

Your area is polluted with ticks in the fall compared to many other places in the state. I wonder if there is some correlation.

Re: ANF black flys

Just spent 3 days in northern Potter and saw some black flies on Sun before breeze picked up then no problem. Only saw 2 caterpillars, in fact saw more bears than caterpillars, sow and 2 cubs at camp.
