Lehigh Gorge Rail Trail

Our Boy Scout troop is thinking of going up and biking this rail trail this summer. I was wondering if anyone has ever taken the bike train out of Jim Thorpe to White Haven and rode back to Jim Thorpe? We have a variety of different ages of boys and I am not sure what to expect. I was under the impression that it can be done in about 3-4 hours. Is this correct? I don't want us to travel that far and it not be worth the trip up. Any advise or experiences would be great.

I ride the trail between White Haven and Mountain Top. The trail between White Haven and Jim Thorpe is pretty level and easy to bike. Not sure about the time it would take.

My troop did it quite a few years ago, rode from White Haven to Jim Thorpe where we were picked up. If you are taking a wide range of boys, 20-25 miles should be your max. My troop did the lower Grand Canyon trail last spring and it was hard riding for the younger scouts when we go close to the 20 mile mark. When the younger scouts start to drag, it affects everyone. One option we used before was to break up in two groups and let the older scouts ride a longer distance.

Plenty of scouting and good habitat makes for a great hunt.
