That'll really show them who's boss. The quick buck, that's who.

We’re not going to apologize for caring. We’re not.

Re: Dumping in ANF only costs $9,000

I find it amazing that so many outdoorsmen on this website will try to justify these "little incidents" related to gas drilling. Ironically, very few seem to have any concern over this laughable financial penalty. I do not think people realize that we are putting a large section of rural Pennsylvania at risk in order to pay for the debt of urban Pennsylvania. There are too many outdoorsmen that blindly support the marcellus drilling without actually thinking about everything involved. The bottom line is that too many people put money over our outdoor heritage. The Marcellus gas could be a great thing for rural PA if done properly. Unfortunately, too many people that should be concerned about Rural PA are only concerned about money. The right way is not usually the cheapest way. I have a few relatives that have gotten jobs as a direct result of the marcellus drilling. They are very happy with their jobs but they are not stupid enough to ignore the issues that currently exist. Our state was not prepared for this and as a result we will make sacrifices in rural PA so that we can rebuild our cities. Sounds great for people like me who live in Philadelphia; however, I personally value the PA wilds much more than our cities. Any trout fisherman that has fished near Philadelphia and in the PA wilds can appreciate the importance of protecting our cold water fisheries in the northern part of the state. So what if 10% of the wild trout streams become fisheries that are only supported by stocking? So what if small rural towns are having new found drug and prostitution problems? So what if people lose interest in vacationing in the PA wilds because they can stay home and watch trucks drive by all day? So what if the social culture of the region's small towns is progressively altered? We have been promised an economic miracle. If that promise does not hold up, how are we going to explain our lack of concern to future generations? Let's not forget that the logging boom once made the PA wilds region a very prosperous place and yet look at how economically depressed the region has become. The apathy regarding the marcellus drilling is enough to make a person sick.

The best of trout fisherman have no understanding of a creel limit.
