Feds still assessing Dimock water

Dimock Water Still a Concern
Remember back at the end of July when the media announced that EPA had declared Dimock water "safe to drink"? Only problem was that EPA's statement that "no further action" was needed left out an important bit of information: that their results were going to be factored into a broader health study by ATSDR (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry).

The ongoing ATSDR investigation is looking at longterm risks of exposures to the contaminated water in Dimock. That's because water tests found elevated levels of heavy metals - aluminum, arsenic, barium, lithium and manganese - as well as ethylene glycol, phthalates and other volatile organic compounds, things that, notes ATSDR in a report, aren't healthy for human beings.

The ATSDR study will account for risks of long-term exposures to the water through showering, drinking, bathing and washing, as well as risks that might be compounded when people are exposed to multiple toxicants. And they will look at cumulative and synergistic effects, something that's been sorely lacking in many of the studies. Not sure when the study will be done, but you can learn more about the background in Tom Wilber's recent article.

beautiful....Cabot test....DEP test...EPA test....all show no contamination from NG Drilling.....yet the Antis keep hoding out for that elusive chance at a law suit, for something that has apparently exsited since long before NG Drilling!

ATSDR can take steps to help communities deal with those health concerns. For example, at a
site in southwestern Virginia, residents were concerned about children eating contaminated fish
from a river where fishing was banned. ATSDR worked with the community to develop an
educational program to teach children not to eat fish from the river.

Actually, the lawsuit is over Buzz. Cabot settled a few weeks ago, apparently right before this story broke.

Re: Feds still assessing Dimock water

Really, they had to spend tax money to teach people not to eat fish from a contaminated river!! How about just putting up signs that say eating fish from this river will kill you and cause your kids to have two heads and six eyes. Put it on the tv news and in the newspaper, maybe a bill board somewhere. But a government program?

When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!

Dimock was the poster child for the Anti's....although there seems to be a consistant stream of proof from diverse agency's proving them wrong, they still keep digging for someone or some agency to give them a glimmer of hope......and a chance at a new law suit!

It has been rather humorious in the past few months seeing how quite they(you included) have been about dimock.....

If you mean quiet, it probably has a lot to do with the gag order all the litigants were forced to sign when Cabot settled. Proof from a diverse stream of agencies proving them wrong? You are aware that the ONLY tests that show no contaminants in the water is Cabot's pre drill testing? The DEP showed contaminants, The EPA showed contaminants, Cabot's post drilling testing showed contaminants, the former litigants testing showed contaminants. Things found include non organic compounds so the naturally occurring argument is more than ridiculous.

Re: Feds still assessing Dimock water

I've talked to people personally who have had their drinking water ruined by the frackers. I just talked to a woman two weeks ago from Proctor who had her water fracked up. All this is is greed. Lets rape the land for profits and let Mexicans run all over the mountains littering and setting off charges. All the greedy Pennsylvanians are putting the water at risk for the rest of us. Here's a map. http://www.frackalert.org/index.asp?page=64
