Tioga County issues

We have been pursued to sign a gas lease for a few years now...we were considering doing it this year, and we get a letter in the mail from Waste Management saying they are sending in a surveying crew onto our property to survey "their" mineral rights.

hmmmm now, when we purchased the property, we had a title search done, we were told it came back "fee simple" that we owned everything.
Now we have WM trying to say they own it.
Now the gas lease company is stating that WM may have illegally obtained mineral rights to many properties.

Anyone else having any issues with this?

Guess its time to call a lawyer and find out why we've been paying so much in taxes on a worthless piece of property.
(we didnt go clean and green for the fact that, if we signed a gas lease, we didnt want to have to go and pay back taxes.)

I really get tired of these companies ripping people off......wonder if the media would like in on this one

Yep lawyer time. Also, check to see if you are paying title insurance .

Is your position a short term gain - or a long term loss? Separate the issues.

Re: Tioga County issues

There are millions to be made and there are lots of "people" who want in on it, is why.

Wouldn't be the first time that a title search conflicted with what someone else has on record, won't be the last. An attorney that specializes in such things is what you want. The better ones will have their own experienced staff to search it out.

If you've never done so, stop at the Tioga Co. courthouse sometime and look at their real estate records. Last time I was there, maybe 4 or 5 years ago, the place was crowded with people doing title searches, primarily related to gas exploration, etc.
