Shell Refinery to PA

Quote:
Shell Chooses PA for New Refinery

Shell Oil has chosen Pennsylvania for the site of its new multi-billion-dollar petrochemical refinery.

Dan Carlson, Shell's General Manager of New Business Development, said today that Shell has signed an option agreement with Horsehead Corp. to evaluate a site near Monaca, northwest of Pittsburgh.

Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania had all offered Shell major tax incentives in their quests for the plant.
Not sure, but figure the amount of "wet" gas in Western/SW PA, may have helped swing this one, since it will probably supply quite a bit of the necessary ingredients for this refinery?

But Ohio and WV don't have the Del. loop hole like we do. Waugh!

Re: Shell Refinery to PA

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the Del loop hole?

Horsehead is planning to cease or idle its smelting operations soon anyhow, so this seems like a fitting place for the cracker IMO.

Re: Shell Refinery to PA

Companies that are incorporated in Del. can avoid certain PA taxes.
