Hi everyone! New hunter and forum member

Hi everyone - it’s nice to be a member here on huntingpa. I’m also a member on paflyfish.com if anyone is familiar with that site. I’m in SE PA, Conshohocken, but roam around the state quite a bit hunting and fishing.

Just to introduce myself and give a little background - I’ve been a dedicated angler and general outdoorsy guy since I was a little kid (I’m 30 now). I have always had an interest in hunting but never had friends or family to break the ice. My grandfather was crazy about hunting, and unfortunately he passed before I could meet him. The hunting tradition also left with him, as nobody else in my family hunts (he would have been the one to take me out when I was young).

Anyway, fast forward 20+ years and I took my hunters ed and started hunting in December of the 2018-2019 season. I haven’t bagged anything yet, but that’s not for lack of trying - I’ve done a good amount of small game hunting for pheasants, squirrels, and rabbit this year with a few missed opportunities. It’s not for nothing though as it has been good time spent scouting and exploring various SGL and state parks.

Lately, I’ve been getting out for turkey on saturdays, since I work during the week and I have to drive quite a way to get to the more likely turkey spots. Haven’t heard or seen anything yet, but I’ve only been out 2 days so I am staying positive. Also, like everything else, the SGL I have hunted is new territory for me, with a number of different spots still to check out, so I’m doing a lot of scouting.

Overall, I consider myself a generalist and like to do a bit of everything. Especially as a new hunter, I want to try every hunt I can and see what I naturally gravitate towards/enjoy the most - so far I have really liked everything I’ve done. Looking forward to hunting deer for the first time next year, doves, and also ducks as I was a bit late in the game this past season to give all that a go.

As a “late-onset hunter” with no friends or family who hunt, it’s nice to be on this forum and have folks to talk to talk to and share stories/knowledge. I look forward to getting to know you guys and gals. I’m glad to have found such a great resource and community of like-minded folks!

Welcome! Enjoy the site. Look up "PA game hunting maps" in google and it will send you to a link to start the Game Commissions interactive map https://www.pgc.pa.gov/HuntTrap/Stat...s/default.aspx. There you can find the "little yellow dots" of properties where if you ask permission you can hunt. That might get you closer to home. It sure has helped me.

Also since you're new here try the PA mountain lion kebabs. They are the best around!
