And you get a $1,000

Just like Oprah......Trumps pushing Romney's idea. I thought a withholding holiday questionable, but this is looking like socialism, and quite frankly I don't think it will be very effective.

Free money .....free money is never a good idea.

I’m inclined to disagree with this as well. Does this mean that EVERYONE will get a check, even if you are already on the government dole?

I'll bet the slugs on welfare get theirs first and the poor gal working as a waitress who is laid off now or the Grandma working a crap job just to make ends meet will get by will get theirs last.

I'll donate mine.

I've seen some reports saying every adult American and others that are more vague. I'm not certain yet. That's the concern I have. I'm afraid it may pertain to EVERYONE.

It seems to me any financial aid at this point should be directed at meeting basic living expenses...food, shelter, utilities. Not a free for all stimulus. We all know there are those out there that will blow the $1,000.

And many don't need it. I know I don't. And yet I will get one. I'll take it, mama didn't raise no fool. I'll directly use the money to aid those I know that are affected by the crisis. But most will just pocket the money.

Those already on the dole do not “need” another check as their income has not be suspended or interrupted.

I’M still working and do not need an Uncle Sam check.

Besides, if people have to have their businesses shut down for a month or more, a $1000 isn’t going to mean a thing to them as far as making ends meet. Their employees that are laid off can collect unemployment, they can’t...

I don't think we can buy our way out of this one.

To be honest, that’s what the point is of the check.

Give people “mad money” so they drop it into businesses by buying stuff.

Like others, I won’t turn it down. It’s a good additional hedge in case my employment or my wife’s employment should become impacted.

But we don’t have any current need for it.

And unfortunately, we won’t do with it what it’s intended for. It won’t get spent.

There has been talk of a consumer stimulus (withholding holiday) since before the covid19 panic hit, so you got that right. Now they are lumping it into coronavirus relief and increasing the amount and manner of distribution.

As I said, I question the effectiveness. A direct cash payment will either be blown (meeting the stimulus objective) or saved. More are probably likely to save it, given the panic stirred up as of late. And of course for many the $1,000 could provide much needed relief. But these people could be further and better served by a system that directed funds to only those truly in need of economic relief due to circumstances caused by covid19. Stimulus should have nothing to do with it at this point.
