Can Someone Explain?

Under what authority does the governor tell private businesses that they have to shut down? I got that there is a declared state of emergency, whether necessary or not is arguable, but how do they just order private businesses to shut down?

I think that the declaration of a state of emergency empowers the governor to do this.

How many will have to go out of business because of this??? I can see the big business getting money from the government but the little guy will get screwed!

I would suspect a lot of "bail out", whether that trickles down to the small business owners or not, only time will tell. This whole mess is going to be very expensive for the tax payers.

Point of why I asked.
But really would like to know what regulatory document or legislation gives that authority. PA Constitution?

Take it to court. Last I heard they were closed till the virus was under control. Thank you Major Major.

If Sunday hunting was not already illegal, who among us would not laugh at making it so?

Thanks for the answer. Now maybe someone with actual knowledge of the question asked will respond.

Unless I missed it, I don't see anywhere in this that gives authority to the state to shutdown private businesses.

Can they strongly encourage it? Sure. But ultimately it should be the private business' decision IMO.

From what I gather it is PA Title 35, Chapter 73, subchapter A, section 7301, subsection f(7). There has been question as to the legality of using this to close private business in this crisis.
