Democrats are “Deeply Offended” By Trump’s Treatment of Pelosi

Top Democrats in congressional leadership were in need of their fainting couches on Wednesday after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Donald Trump got into it over the devolving situation at the Syria/Turkey border. Each of them found time to get in front of a microphone after the disastrous national security meeting, blaming Trump for the “meltdown” that caused top Democrats to walk out of the White House and telling reporters that they were “deeply offended” by Trump’s treatment of the Speaker.
Held in the aftermath of a House vote condemning Trump for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria, the meeting quickly disintegrated into sharp personal jabs between Trump and the House Speaker.
“They said you wanted this meeting,” President Trump reportedly told the Democrats as they sat down. “I didn’t want this meeting, but I’m doing it.”
Trump then held court on a “nasty letter” he sent to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, warning him that there would be economic consequences for escalating military action in Syria against the Kurds.
After a time, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he got involved in the discussion, asking Trump if he wanted to oversee the resurgence of ISIS in the region.
“I told the president, being from New York,” Schumer related to reporters, “we’re particularly aware of the problems that terrorism that an organization like ISIS can create. And the fact that someone no less than General Mattis has said that ISIS has been enhanced, that the danger of ISIS is so much greater, worries all of us.”
Schumer’s mention of Mattis did not impress the president. “He was the world’s most overrated general,” Trump said. “You know why? He wasn’t tough enough. I captured ISIS. Mattis said it would take two years. I captured them in one month.”
Pelosi jumped in, telling Trump that his withdrawal from Syria would give Moscow the opportunity they’ve been looking for. “Somehow with you, all roads lead back to Putin,” she said.
Relations did not improve from there. By the end of the confrontation, Trump had slammed Pelosi as a “third-rate politician,” and Pelosi, Rep. Steny Hoyer, and other Democrats picked up their ball and went home.
“We couldn’t continue in the meeting,” Pelosi told reporters, “because he was just not relating to the reality of it.”
While Pelosi encouraged the country to “pray” for Trump, the president said the problem did not lie with him.
“Nancy Pelosi needs help fast!” he tweeted. “There is either something wrong with her ‘upstairs,’ or she just plain doesn’t like our great Country. She had a total meltdown in the White House today. It was very sad to watch. Pray for her, she is a very sick person!”
Well, this is the kind of malfunction that occurs when one party decides that their entire system of governance will be based on hating and “resisting” the President. Pelosi’s first term as House Speaker was a failure, but her second stint is poised to go down in history as one of the worst of all time.
