America going down the tubes

43% of U.S. Adults Now Think Socialism Would Be Good for America
Posted by: admin in Freedom News, Politics May 21, 2019

According to a new poll from Gallup, a love for socialism is on the rise in America. While a majority of American adults still see socialism as a bad thing for the country, the number of people who think otherwise has jumped to an alarming 43%. As Gallup notes, this is a massive sea change from 1942, when a survey found that only 25% of Americans thought the country should begin adopting socialism. But then, that was before the media made stars out of people like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Of course, there are other factors affecting the rise of socialism’s popularity. For instance, Americans currently have a confused idea about what socialism actually is. “Previous Gallup research shows that Americans’ definition of socialism has changed over the years, with nearly one in four now associating the concept with social equality and 17% associating it with the more classical definition of having some degree of government control over the means of production.”

In other words, a lot of Democrats voting “Yay, socialism,” are really just endorsing some vague kind of feel-goodery where women and minorities have “justice.”

This is particularly obvious when we move on to another question in the Gallup survey, which asks Americans to decide who should be in control of various economic activities: The federal government or the free market?

Technological innovation? 75% say the free market should control that.

Distribution of wealth? 68% say free market.

The overall economy? 62% give the nod to the free market.

To put it another way, Americans are beginning to say they want “socialism,” but when push comes to shove, they don’t actually want anything of the kind. Even when it comes to areas like healthcare and college education, a slim majority wants to see the free market determine the way forward. Looking ahead to 2020, that spells trouble for Sanders and his insurgent wing of the party. He may come to find that the more people realize what he’s actually talking about, the less they want him to be the Democratic nominee.

those 43% should go on vacation for a month in a true socialist nation. if they like it, they can move.

The day may have come, when elections can not fix the evil. We have fought communism and socialism in other countries, the day may soon be here, when we fight against it, on American soil.

I feel bad for my kids and many others, but I am so fed up with this that I actually hope that they achieve their “utopia” and that this country ends up like Venezuela. Let the whole thing come crashing down and have them digging in dumpsters and beating cows over the head to find food. They deserve it...

just saw on the news tonight they are talking about the possibility of using cell phones to vote in elections. (that way the lazy people dont have to make any effort to go vote.)

all this will do is open the door for fraud, rigging, non-citizens voting, people casting multiple votes and votes being changed....its a massive horrible idea.

You folks are so caught up on labels. As the poll shows the American people don't really want what you all call "socialism". Who cares what you call what people want. People want free markets for the most part. We don't really have that in many cases. We still allow monopolies whether you want to call them that or not. You guys are fretting about a label, not what the American people want. Yes, we do have "socialist" aspects incorporated into our system but it is NOT the majority of our ideals as the poll shows. For that matter, I like the fact that I get some measure of income from "social" security after I retire. I like the fact that I don't have to pay exorbitant premiums for health care after age 65. The problem is that the politicos can't keep their hands out of the kitty. Call me a socialist if you want to. I don't care. I believe in free markets, in general, if they don't solely benefit the big rich corporations and leave the little guy trying to make a buck being squashed by the big money and lawyers. How do you think we got in this mess with China making all the Sh*t these days. We've allowed the big corporations to ship jobs to the cheap labor countries with no repercussions. You can't find a U.S. manufacturer to make the stuff you need. We need to have some constraints (not free market ideals) to stop outsourcing U.S. manufacturing. Forget the labels. Our system cannot be labelled. If the label "socialism" scares you, buy a dog.

It's good knowin' he's out there. The Dude. Takin' her easy for all us sinners

I paid a pile of money into Social Security and Medicare over my work career, money I will never realize the full benefit from. I drew a decent paycheck from those " big rich corporations" that some of you folks hate. I always figured if the company wasn't making money, i wasn't going to either. We allowed those jobs to go to China by not bucking up with our wallets and buying the junk to save a buck. Call it what you want, anytime you take money out of my pocket to give someone so they can get their free food, school, phone or spending money, it's not right!
