Personally, I think going after Maryland was a payback for Notre Dame going to the ACC.

Virginia is a member of the AAU, but their roots are in the ACC. When VT got accepted to the ACC, the attitude of the program was "we're finally where we belong". VT is not a member of AAU.

Actually, a likely expansion would include Univ. of Colorado- which gives them the Denver media base.

Re: big 10

As you say, being a member of the AAU doesn't seem to be a deal breaker.

UVA and VT are a package deal, state law.

BIG looks to expand south not west. Much more football talent in that direction.

UVA/VA to 16. Then maybe pick the remains of the ACC (force ND to commit fully to a conf) as ACC collapses. Eventually could be 20 teams in the BIG.

Re: big 10

Maryland has just as strong ties to the ACC as Virginia. UVA to Big Ten wouldn't shock me.

I do see either UCONN or Louisville entering the ACC now that Maryland is leaving.

3B NRA NWTF: I do have to fine you. That will be a thousand dollars Canadian, or 10 American dollars if you prefer.
