I doubt they even have the standing to sue. They aren't directly affected and they have no authority to speak for the University.

Correct, unless they think they still own it.

Re: Paterno Family Intends to Appeal NCAA Sanctions

I really wish that the Paterno family would stop drinking the State College Kool-Aid and just fade away with the millions that Joe put into the family bank accounts.

The only puspose I see them serving at present is to make a fool of themselves and further tarnish the Paterno name.

IMO their actions with the appeal seem only to add more credence to the Freeh report.

Re: Paterno Family Intends to Appeal NCAA Sanctions

Once the legendary coach was found to be complicit in a child sex abuse scandal and forever tarnished because of it, the family acted in the only logical manner open to them. They decided to make themselves look stupid. The UNIVERSITY has accepted the punishment. Let it go, Paternos, let it go.

Penn State University <span style="font-weight: bold">DID NOT</span> accept the punishment. President Rodney Erickson did and did so without consulting anyone at the University. HUGE difference.

I'm not adding any creedence to the paterno petition, but the stated reason is because Joe was named in the sanctions and the NCAAs ruling.

Re: Paterno Family Intends to Appeal NCAA Sanctions

Let me first state that I do believe Joe Paterno has a dog in this hunt. I don't doubt that for a minute.

But the only real "proof" of that is because by his own admission he said he wish he had done more. The fact that JS was able to hang around for years and continue his predation magnifies the situation.

To the best of my knowledge from all I have read in news articles, listening to the news, and reading part of the Freeh report.....there is nothing else that implicates Joe in this horiffic JS crime. The best the Freeh report could come up with was 2 (or 3) emails between 2 administrators that "speculate" Joe's knowledge of the situation. That's it!!

I am very curious why folks on here seem to only have the noose around Joe's neck. Why is there no focus on Tim Curly, Gary Schultz, Graham Spanier, and Tom Corbett? They had MUCH more responsibility to investigate and stop JS than Paterno did. The hatred needs to be redirected.

I am aware of this fact. What other choice did PSU (Erikson is the CEO) have?

To appeal and fight the sanctions would have been a public relations nightmare and created more of a media frenzy about the subject.

Erikson should have consulted with the Board, but to do anything other than bend over and take it would have been another PR disaster that PSU did not need. The University is doing what it can to mend the bridges and move on.
