Re: Reports say Statue comming down!!!

Let's see if the PSU admins can make any more bad calls. Generally, the new administration has handled things well since last fall, but removing the statue over the weekend, with this little notice is as bad a decision as firing Joe on a Friday night at 10pm.

Not saying it's a generally bad decision, just saying maybe consider the timing a little bit more.

No, a good call.

Also, short notice, when the kids are gone, during a rainy hot weekend is best.

Hate to have another thread on people protesting the action.

Better this than the midnight raid that was almost inevitable to happen defacing it o destroying it. The repercussions would be for legal action against the perpetrators.

Seriously, sell it for scrap and make the first donation towards healing..... or the legal fund.

Is your position a short term gain - or a long term loss? Separate the issues.

Re: Reports say Statue comming down!!!

By the way - the above might sound cold to some. The reality is, there are some people that are or would take the midnight raid course. Morality, a sense of justice, or yes - a drunken prank based on the first two.

The statute is a huge point of contention due to the what it stands for and the entire 10 year debacle was predicated on.

Think about it, you don't see many statues of Richard Nixon - do you?

The high flying, super popular leaders and celebrities that cross the lines of law and social sensibilities are relegated to the trash heap of memory. Ye, there are always a core of supporters keeping the "redeeming" qualities alive. But mostly, those folks are ignored and taken to task.

Reality is harsh at times. But taking the statute down due to the circumstances and intimate involvement of Paterno - is the right thing to do.

I have been a little torn over the statue subject. I still don't really have a solid opinion but I see both sides of the argument.

Re: Reports say Statue comming down!!!

I'm with Possum on this one. Timing is everything. Lets just say that Spanier, Curley and Shultz come out at their hearing and say that the intentionally kept info from JoePa and kept him in the dark as much as they could? Yes, he had info and yes he said he should have done more. But what did he mean when he said that? Do more by probing further into it? He heard rumor and was told what was going on, but what if the 3 Stooges lied to him and told him that everything was taken care of? I'm not saying that is what happened...just food for thought.

Which is exactly why the Freeh Report is pure opinion. Phone and conference calls have no paper trail. The only way to prove anything is to have multiple people testify to the exact same thing...which has not been done yet.
