Rumors are a flyin. Staal is likely on the trade block, but some are suggesting Malkin. And even a select few are saying it should be Crosby, as you just can't trust the "damaged goods". There's no way they can keep all 3, and "fix" what is broken. There's an argument that can be made to keep, or let go each of the three. Whatta ya think ?
Oh, didn't see the other thread. But after reading it, this is more about those 3 in particular, and not what the Pens overall need to retool. More, which one would YOU keep. I think I agree with you in Malkin. That's tough to say about a guy that just finished as points leader for the season, but, I think there is more downside to him..... save for Crosby having the dreaded symptoms once again.
Started a long time ago with Staal. He's a 3rd line center with 1st/2nd line talent, and superb defensive skills to boot. One of the three will have to go for sure. Simply no cap space for all three, and I'm sure Shiro (sp) realizes it.
Nobody even knows what the cap is going to be yet, these things always seem to work themselfs out.
Here's the thing. Sid signed for 8.7 mil. and it was a hometown discount. Malkin, not to outdo Sid, signed for the same. THIS TIME around, I can guarantee you aren't gonna get the hometown discount. Add to that the salaries of Letang, Staal (what he stands to make), Fleury, and the $5 and $4 million for Martin/Michalik, and there ain't that much extra cap in the world.
