Astros scandal and baseballs future

Just wondering where this Houston Astros scandal is going to lead. So far it appears that the whole thing is being handled badly.
Listening to sports talk radio and it sounds as if the leadership of the sport are not going to do much in the way of "punishing" the Astros. But the other teams (especially the ones that were directly impacted) are going to take pretty drastic action at game times.
Should be a pretty interesting year for MLB if anyone still cares.

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

Last time a team was caught cheating in a WS players involved were banned from baseball. The same should happen here. Strip the Astros of the WS title and place those that cheated on a permanent ban.

and dont let any of them in the hall of fame for life too. if its good enough for Pete Rose, its good enough for them. i still think pro sports have criminals and are corrupt at every level and the ruling commission just looks the other way as long as the media pressure stays low.
heck...they even let convicted criminals back on the teams after they get out of jail. sends a nice message to our children.

ok...i looked into this and apparently the scandal involves what MLB is calling cheating. the astros allegedly stole "signs" from other teams using technology for at least two years ?

i took that to mean they know whats coming when the other teams signal to the players. like tapping your nose twice and wiping your hat signals something and now the Astros know what that means.

thats not cheating. its no different than someone taking your photo even if you dont want them to and its legal because you are out in public, the courts said this is ok.
so, if MLB is doing this in public and the Astros film it or capture it and study it and learn from it...whats so different ? they did it in public and the Astros paid attention.

As long as players keep hitting homeruns with the juiced balls nearly anything will pass... It is big scores and longballs that fill the stands. Only a few diehard fans want to see a pitchers duel. Steroids and homeruns is what SAVED MLB from collapse just a decade or 2 ago. They knew it back then but chose to ignore it as their numbers and viewers grew. Only after the fan base was back and players washed up/retired was something done...
Its not about right and wrong, moral or unjust... it is all about MONEY!
Houston has the 5th largest television market in the US. That is HUGE money for MLB. Anything more than a slap on the wrist will hit them too hard in their fat deep pockets.

I expect the umpires will be ready and as soon as the first Astro is hit with a pitch it will be an automatic ejection, no warnings.

It looks like the MLB isn't going to do anything so it's really left to the managers to decide on whether or not they will allow their team to retaliate. No matter what happens, it will be interesting to see how the unfolds. also, I will be watching the first televised Astros game.

GO YANKEES!!!!

I agree WADMAN but Houston is 8th not 5th.

No bohunr stealing signs is as old as the game but using technology to do it is taking it beyond the human element. Teams change signs when a runner is on second. thus the game is balanced. If the people in the batters box are told what to look for they now hold the advantage. Ball parks are not really out in public because you have to pay to get inside. But I don't think that has anything to do with the use of technology to get an unfair advantage. Card counting is banned in casinos for the same reason. Waugh!

I always wondered why a team that stunk up the place in the National league was such a success in the American league. Waugh!

bo - they were stealing catcher's signals to the pitcher during the game....so the batters knew what pitch was coming before the pitcher threw it. Not doing it the old fashioned way with a guy on second base trying to pick up the signs, but with cameras and other technology.

i understand that. but, as i said, if they can take your picture in public against your wishes, whats the difference if they capture your signals or your image ?
instead of complaining about it, just do the same to them.
