I hope not!

Must be a slow NFL news day. Yahoo sports' Shutdown Corner is speculating the Steelers are considering signing Plexiglass Burrhead. I think one time down that road is enough. But, I pledge if they do sign him, I will send him an inside-the-waistband holster so he will no longer shoot his thigh out.

Re: I hope not!

I heard that this evening on the local news as we were cleaning up from dinner.

Isn't having Ben on the team bad enough?

We can rename them the Pittsburgh Raiders.

Ben made a stupid mistake, created by becoming Big Ben, and losing Ben Roethlisberger. He, by all reports, has gotten his act together. You realize that he was never charged with anything. He was not even questioned. The two incidents in question happened in the off season. This is a far cry from being in a bar at 1 AM the night before a game, carrying a weapon illegally and unsecured, and managing to shoot your thigh out, then serving two years in the state pen.

There is no comparison between the Steelers and the Raiders.

We’re not going to apologize for caring. We’re not.

Re: I hope not!

From a football standpoint, I'm not sure it's a good move either. This would give them 2 X receivers. Plax is NOT a third down guy. He's faster than he is quick. He, contrary to the article, does not do a good job on jump balls. Though he had A good year here, generally most of his yardage would come in 4-5 games. On the plus side, he's an absolute Raven killer. But so is the FBI. How would you handle it? Demote Wallace to 3rd receiver again? Take Heath Miller off the field more often? Not with this offensive line, you won't. Cutting Randle El may happen anyway because of the emergence of Sanders and Brown, but I would not cut him for Plaxiglass. I like ARE, and his versatility, but his usefullness on the trick plays is moot because Arians has trouble enough drawing up standard plays, especially effective running plays, let alone trick plays, and those nearly always require a little more time from the blocking, which is asking a lot. If they sign Plax, they will have to cut Kemo the Hut, and fire Arians to balance out the SF58 happyometer.

We’re not going to apologize for caring. We’re not.

Re: I hope not!

I don't see Wallace being demoted to the #3 guy. I really look for him to be "the man" this year. Sanders and Brown proved to be reliable and you know Hines will get his catches. If Plexiglass comes back, it will be as a #3, 3rd down guy. Lord knows Sweed can't be counted on as the tall guy who can catch. I really hope they don't do it. All I remember of him was his constant Randy Moss-like whining about not getting the ball. They got rid of him and won the Super Bowl the following year. Not a coincidence if you ask me.

He also won a superbowl after leaving the steelers. On a less superior team. If I'm not mistaken, he had a pretty good game. I like Plex. I wouldn't mind seeing him back in black and gold. After Ward and Wallace he's a step above anybody else we have.

Where have you been?

Re: I hope not!

Arians does not like tall receivers for some odd reason. I'm not going to toot the horn of Arians, but this plays into the Plax thing. IF they want to offer him a deal, I would go with a small base salary, perhaps even league minimum, with a lot of incentives, and a personal conduct clause.
