Baseballs draft

I have to admit, in my narrow knowledge of things baseball, I think the Pirates actually made the right move picking Gerrit Cole first overall. I realize Hultzen is probably more polished, but Cole sounds like he has a higher upside. What really surprised me was that the Pirates willingly picked a guy that they KNOW is gonna be expensive. Signability (or the chance of getting a guy on the cheap) didn't even seem to enter into it. If they keep making moves like this, I might have to start posting on the "Does anyone care about the Pirates" thread.

Some guy on the radio said it best: If a guy can throw 100 miles an hour, PICK HIM.

Cost hasn't really factored in to any of the drafts since Neal Huntington became GM. He chose who he thought was the best player.

Re: Baseballs draft

It wasn't all that long ago that signability factored heavily into who they drafted. The last thing they should be worried about when deciding to draft a guy is who that guys agent is.

If you're referring to the Sanchez pick all you have to do is look at all the over slot guys that they took later in the draft. I think they still were one of the top teams that year in terms of spending.
