Antonio Brown Steeler for Life

Antonio Brown made his best catch of the season: a new contract.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are sure putting their money where their mouth is. Just hours after announcing they’d placed the franchise tag on running back Le’Veon Bell, the team announced it had reached an extension agreement with wide receiver Antonio Brown.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Brown and the Steelers have agreed to a deal that will make him the highest-paid WR in the league.

Schefter reported that Brown’s deal is a 4-year extension worth $68 million — “extension” meaning Brown is tied to the black and gold through the 2021 season. He’ll get $17 million/year over four years and will get $18.5 million over the next three years.

Reporting on the exact details on the contract has varied. CBS’ Jason La Canfora reported that Brown’s deal is worth nearly $73 million.

The five-time Pro Bowler has been one of the league’s best wideouts over the past four seasons. Over that span, he led the league in receptions twice and receiving yards once. In 2016, Brown had 106 catches for 1,284 yards, was selected to the AP’s All-Pro team and was fifth in the NFL in total yardage (with 1,284 yards).

Business sure is boomin’ for Antonio Brown — and his bank account.

Yes, Bell and Brown... Time to beef up the Corners on our team now.

Great news and move...

Still gotta have someone to get him the ball if ben goes down, or if he retires. Get a quality backup and start grooming him now, before you need him. The most important position on the team and we're relying on landry jones if ben's out. Makes no sense.

Anybody else remember how easy it was to watch joe montana ride off into the sunset?

I don't see Ben retiring, at least not yet.

Where the Steelers should spend their first 3 draft picks is on defense. This offense is very good (although there were too many occasions where they disappointed big time last season). If Ladarius Green can stay healthy, if they utilize Jesse James (who I think is good), the young receivers step up (was Bryant's reinstatement approved?) and the offensive line continue to improve they will be hard to beat.

The defense, though better than I'd thought they be, still needs work. They need another Corner, I think Burns will be good, and they need an edge rusher. Harrison can't do it forever.....I think.

Glad to see this happen, Hopefully they are productive on the draft. I agree about needing a good backup QB. Landry Jones is most definitely NOT the answer.

.....or at least until the NEXT team decides their WR has to be the highest paid WR in the league. Status as Highest Paid might last a year, or a month.....

I can't believe he didn't want to go somewhere where he would win...

Don't agree with giving him that kind of $. Should have let him ride it out and then out the door and spent the $ getting a decent QB in here that can help when Ben is finally done. He is no spring chicken.

That being said, enjoyed watching 'ol AB and the other Steeler Footballers at Hempfield HS on Friday night, playing against the HS team and faculty for charity. Kids were swarming AB and he was doing his best to sign as much as possible and worked the crowd. He sure has never met a 3 pt attempt he didn't like.....

My boy got his shirt signed by all the Steelers in attendance.
