"New York Islanders goon Trevor Gillies had just served a nine-game suspension received for elbowing Eric Tangradi in the head, then punching and taunting the prone Penguins rookie. So, in his first game back, Gillies goes head-hunting on Minnesota's Cal Clutterbuck. Five-minute major. Game misconduct.
Either Islanders management has lost control, or this is EXACTLY WHAT IT WANTS. The NHL should fine and/or suspend Islanders GM Garth Snow and Coach Jack Capuano, and get rid of Gillies for 50 games. There's a difference between playing tough and deliberately crossing the line. Gillies doesn't belong in the NHL.
Mario Lemieux said the NHL "failed" to "send a clear and strong message" in the wake of the Penguins-Islanders brawl Feb. 11. Anyone still disagree?"
And they gave Godard the worst suspension. Dude is right, this viscous animal has no place in sports-he should be in prison, which is where he would be if he didn't play hockey. Madden's right on the money on this. The coach and GM both need fined for putting this thug on the ice to begin with. He has no talent. Say what you will about Cooke, but at least he can play. This guy does nothing but hurt people intentionally. There is no place for animals like him in today's NHL, and there shouldn't have been ever.
We’re not going to apologize for caring. We’re not.
