Malkin Out for the Year

I guess it's not official but he's got a torn ACL and MCL so I think it's a pretty safe bet that he's done for the year. Has Jordan Staal ever been more important???

They've played pretty well without him.

Where have you been? I had to work late... Oh these? Yeah, it was 'camo day' at work again .

Re: Malkin Out for the Year

Oddly, they actually seemed to get better once he was out of the game. But overall, that doesn't help the Pens chances of winning the cup at all.

Re: Malkin Out for the Year

They've played pretty well without Malkin and Crosby both. Gives the 2nd, 3rd and 4th tier players a chance to step their games up. I'll be glad when Sid gets back in the lineup. With the Pens playing as well as they are without their stars, and Sid coming back with a lot of rest and fresh legs heading into the playoffs, look out!!!!!! I'm sorry to see Malkin go down, but I'd rather be without him than Sid. I'll take some heat from some for saying this, but I think Malkin is a bit of a head case. We can win with or without him.

Re: Malkin Out for the Year

I agree with both Pa and Wexford. I dont see how we win it all without him, tho I suppose it is possible. But I dont know what happened to his dominant game. I think we need another russian on the team for him to hang out with.

Re: Malkin Out for the Year

I guess the bright side of Malkins injury would be the freeing up of over 8 mil. in cap space if he's put on IR. Just in time for the trade deadline??

Re: Malkin Out for the Year

Wonder if they will play Staal with Crosby at all. Going to be hard to load up a line without Malkin.

I think their overall defense without Malkin will be better but they are going to lose substantial offensive punch without him. I'd rather lose him them any of the other guys like Sid, Fleury, Staal, or even Orpik but he will def be missed in the post season.

Or he needs to grow up. He's been a bit coddled his entire career here. One thing IMO he seems to lack is the insane drive to be the best player, like Sid has. How many times do we hear "We have to find a way to get Geno going!!"? How about he finds a way to fix his game when he's struggling. We never hear that we have to get Sid going. I don't care if he's doing all the little things. That's Talbot's job. For $8.7 mil per campaign, we need more than the little things.

We’re not going to apologize for caring. We’re not.

Re: Malkin Out for the Year

I cant argue that. But, recall early in Jagrs career, they want and got Hrdina (another czech) and Jagr took off from there. I do think Malkin is a bit undisciplined in his play. Not always focused or motivated as much as he should be either. I hope he understands how high the expectation is at his salary level.
