Life threatening injuries to woman hit by broken b

Quote:
BOSTON (AP) - A hospital spokeswoman says more information will be available later Saturday on the woman who was struck by a broken bat in the stands at Fenway Park, suffering injuries police called life-threatening.

Kelly Lawman says she is still gathering information regarding the woman's condition and identity.

Friday night's game between the Oakland Athletics and the Boston Red Sox was stopped in the second inning as emergency crews tended to the woman. She was carried out on a stretcher and taken to a Boston hospital.

A fan sitting behind the woman said she was bleeding from her head during the incident which he called "violent."

It seems to me that since they started using bats made of maple there are a lot more broken bats in MLB. It may have happened but I never heard of a fan getting hit with a broken bat before.

Gotta stay alert when watching the game, no doubt.

Sad, but a very freakish accident. Hope she has a complete and speedy recovery.
Bet by now more lawyers have tried to see her than doctors.

I believe there is wording on the back of the ticket that says something like, you enter at your own risk and if you're hit by a batted ball or a bat you're on your own. Still, that won't stop somebody from trying to sue.

Before maple bats they used ash bats, the wood came from PA.

Prayers for her and her family.

You do have to be on alert the entire time at any sporting event. I remember when the young girl was killed when she was hit by a puck at a hockey game. She was sitting pretty high up behind the goal, when the puck skipped off the top of the glass and hit her. Shortly thereafter, all arenas installed the higher nets behind the goals.

Bats, whole bats, or pieces of, seem to be flying into the stands constantly anymore. I seriously think they need to run netting down to the ends of the dug outs. At least beyond there you have more time to react if somethings coming at you.
