The DeSean Jackson saga has come to an end.
After months of speculation as to Jackson's future with the team, the Eagles released the Pro Bowl wide receiver this morning.

"After careful consideration this offseason, Eagles decide to part ways with DeSean Jackson. The team informed him of his release today," the Eagles said in a tweet Friday morning.

The 27-year-old, the Eagles second-round pick in 2008 out of California, set career-highs last year with 82 catches for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns in first-year coach Chip Kelly's high-powered offense.

However, Jackson's future has been in question since the end of the season, when he was asked if wanted a new contract.

"I definitely feel it's something deserving," Jackson said in January. "We'll see how that plays out, and hopefully we can work things out smoothly and not have to worry about anything out of the ordinary."

Jackson received $18 million guaranteed when he signed a $48.5-million contract in March 2012 that would have paid him $9.7 million in 2014.

"I feel like I've proved everyting on the field. To do some of the things that top receivers in this league do, I think like I'm right there at the top," Jackson said in January.

In six seasons, Jackson caught 357 passes for 6,117 yards and 32 touchdowns. He also averaged 9.9 yards on 131 punt returns, taking four back for touchdowns.

Earlier this week Jackson reportedly told teammates he would be back with the Eagles in 2014, but Kelly was less-than-committal earlier this week when he spoke to reporters in Orlando at the NFL owner's meetings.

Re: DeSean Jackson released by Eagles

thats what iv'e heard, it's his off feild associations that worried the eagles. they could have traded him, but chose to not simply slide him to another team.

imo, a smart move by the eagles. i'm wondering who's going to pick him up? i'm thinking bengals, oakland, baltimore, he could fit in nicely.

With Marty Mornhinweg and Mike Vick up with the Jets, and Rex Ryan fighting for his job plan on seeing Jackson sign with the jets.

The commissioner might not let him play in the NFL until he clears his name, but we all know money talks........

Re: DeSean Jackson released by Eagles

I think their reason for releasing him was truthfully far removed from gang affiliation. From what I understand, he owns a record label. Some nitwit gangbanging rapper who was signed to his label shot some other rival gangbanger out in LBC. Jackson was no where around the incident nor is he remotely considered being involved in the incident. The Eagles wanted to trade him because he has value and frankly, they were fed up with him and how he was running his mouth when Vic took a seat (along with his typical every day antics). He refused to agree to any trades so they released him. I think this was the Eagle's way of sticking a thumb in his eye on the way out the door. I'm in no way defending the guy because he's a total tool but he shouldn't have to worry about any reprecussions from the commish over this.

I don't have ducks. I don't have rows. I have squirrels. And they're drunk.

Re: DeSean Jackson released by Eagles

They tried trading him but couldn't get anyone to give up anything reasonable for him, I think there will be other things that come out also. I think it was a combination of actions that lead to him being released. People he has been associated with have been linked to 2 murders. Also the thing with with the rapper on his record label. From my understanding he has been given chances to straighten up and hasn't.
