Anyone interested in some DIY hunts?

I posted a topic like this a while back and a couple people expressed interest. (I'll have to find my messages). I have been hunting for a long time in PA but have been itching for more adventure lately. I'm 40 now and want to do some things while I have my health and vitality. I am in reasonable financial shape but raising kids so money is always a bit of an issue.

I did a couple solo trips last year that were cheap/free. A couple trips where I hiked back into State Forest and trapped beaver, my annual solo Vermont deer hunt, etc. I put up some threads about them:

It was great and I want to do more.

I am starting to put some serious thought into some kind of drop camp. My initial thought is to Alaska for Caribou. I have never been out there and have no experience with caribou. If anyone is interested in joining me on this kind of trip, it would be good to have someone to partner with that is more knowledgeable than me. Unfortunately, my friends that I hunt with in PA either lack an interest in roughing it or have physical limitations.

I am also putting thought into a backwoods muzzleloader hunt for bear and/or buck in the Adirondacks. I have done a lot of research and could do it any time but finding enough vacation time makes it tough for this year. I have a couple other things in mind as well.

Let me know if anybody is interested in planning some kind of trip.

Do you put in for Vermont's moose hunt?
I done that a few years ago. It was fun but too warm.

No, I never have yet but I should. That would be pretty cool. I'll have to start applying.

I just looked it up and missed the deadline. Only 10% (or less) go to non-residents. There's not much chance of winning anyway.

Springer, what do you have in mind? I live on the opposite end of the state but might want to try something.

Re: Anyone interested in some DIY hunts?

I sent you a pm. I own land in VT and have moose come through periodically but I don't think there is an open season in my unit. I have grouse hunted in the Northeast Kingdom and would love to try moose hunting there.

Planning a DIY Alaska barren ground caribou hunt for 2018 if your interested. Last trip was a bust as the caribou weren't moving well with the warmer weather. Certainly want to return! Could happen sooner but have Africa 2016 and Kodiak, Alaska 2017.
