Re: contender vs encore ?

Encore, because the contender is being phased out and it is already impossible to get parts for them when something breaks. Trust me I've been looking for parts for over a year for my contender and TC just says "sorry but we can't help you".

John-PA, Thanks for the good information. This is what I like most from this site. You don't know something, you ask a question, you get good answers.
Thanks again!

Re: contender vs encore ?

Because it's a heavier frame, you'll have more caliber options with the Encore as well. I have a .243 barrel on a pistol frame that shoots as well at 100 yds. as either of my .243 rifles off the bench...maybe better if I had more skill.

The older I get, the stronger gravity becomes.

I would go with the Encore, Beefy frame, next choice would be a G-2 frame.

Re: contender vs encore ?

as long as I can get parts for a contender, i will own at least one. G-1's have been made since 1966, so there are alot of frames and parts out there. I am talking about the older G-1 frames, not the lousy trigger G-2's. if your choices were between the G-2 and encore, the encore would be the choice because of the more powerful calibers. i own several G-1's and don't feel limited on shooting anything in north america, in pistol form as well as rifle. borrow one of each and carry it all day hunting and you will see another benefit of the contender over the encore, the encores weight more than some lightweight bolt actions. next look at costs of each, the stainless fluted encore barrels are priced near the cost of some bolt action rifles. just a few considerations before buying. currently I own 10 complete G-1 contenders, 4 pistols 4 rifles 2 NIB limited editions and one encore frame, no barrels. if someone wants to trade my encore frame for a G-1 stainless frame, pm me. good luck in your decision
