HR ultra slug jammed!

Took my new ultra slug deluxe to the range today. Shooting hornady SSTs. Take my first shot, break the action, and nothing comes out! The shell is jammed in the chamber. Anyone else have this problem? Off to try and ram it out now....

Was chamber thoroughly cleaned before firing?

Re: HR ultra slug jammed!

Also I tried ejecting a loaded shell when I got it and it shot out just fine.

Re: HR ultra slug jammed!

Just got the shell out. Tried a spent slug shell that was fired from a different gun and it won't fit in the HR either. Brass on both shells calipers the same size. Ejector makes a strong click when the gun is opened and ejector spring seems very strong. What gives!?! Problem with chamber?

Re: HR ultra slug jammed!

I had it happen to my h&r in .22 hornet. Took a .243 bore brush in a drill to the chamber. Then oiled ejector with seafoam and also chamber. Hasn't done it since.

Re: HR ultra slug jammed!

All cases expand upon firing and I believe you have a tight chamber since it ejects a factory unfired round with no problems. Scub the chamber and try again. Also try a different brand of ammo, may be the trick.

Re: HR ultra slug jammed!

Good info all. I'm a machinist so I have the means to deburr and polish the chamber. Possibly a burr or tooling marks. Anyone know what the correct diameter of the chamber should be?

Re: HR ultra slug jammed!

Also I scrubbed it will this afternoon as I always do, and neither spent shell will fit. Goes in about halfway onto the brass n then gets stiff.
