New Ruger #1 Owner

Well not quite yet...............I have to mail my payment to the gun shop in South Carolina and wait for it to arrive. I have been a 100% T/C Encore guy BUT since S&W took over they have done nothing to further the Encore(ie--Custom shop closed--No new models or calibers).
I hope the Ruger #1 meets my expectations..........We will see.

Re: New Ruger #1 Owner

My first single shot rifle was a Ruger # 1 in 243. I never got an Encore barrel in 243 because the Ruger # 1 243 shot so well.. I still have it and it shoots factory and reloads awesome...I have killed deer with it too.

I do remember when I first got it my firing pin broke... I took it to a gunshop he fixed it and I said if you want to play around with it it's OK if you can make it shoot well. He did things to it but I don't know what... I think he enjoyed shooting it so much he only charged me $18.00. So yep...I really like my Ruger # 1!!!!You should enjoy yours too!!!!It like to shoot the Nosler Partion 95 grainers well and oh does that anchor the deer too!!!!

Dave, pics when you get it man!! I love the #1`s also. I wish they didn`t discontinue the #1B with the smooth forearm, I don`t like the schnabel/cut style.

Re: New Ruger #1 Owner

I have had few over the years and some shot very well and others were so-so at best. Love the #1's though - great styling and feel. I currently have a 1B in Stainless with the pepper laminated stock in 25-06. I was frustrated with for awhile as I didn't have time to reload for it so tried many different factory cartridges to rather subpar results. On a last resort I bought a box of Federal Fusion 120 grain and the darn thing shoots about a 3/4 inch group with those. With many of them you just need to find the sweet spot. Good luck with yours - sounds like a beauty.
