Re: Encore 44 Magnum???

The encore is a heavy gun, the recoil is mild with the hot handloads I shoot in it, once you learn to shoot the Encore correctly , (grip), you can shoot any caliber.

Re: Encore 44 Magnum???

I have a 308 and a 223 barrel 15". The 223 is a sweetheart to shoot, the 308 was a hand full, I switched grips to pachymeyer and they seem to soak up a lot of the recoil on the 308. Plus I'm shooting 125 grn sierra's out of it, there are a lot of after market muzzle brakes you can get, My friend has a EABCO and he has that on a 30-06 pistol barrel and it seems to do a very good job. Re: Encore 44 Magnum???

swithced from a taurus .44 mag 8 3/8 revolver (ported) and I went to a 12" encore 44 mag and will say the encore has quite a bit more recoil but its managable.

Your just jealous because I've been chatting online with babes all day!!

The muzzle blast on a braked handgun is not fun,to keep the recoil down use the rubber T/C grips and use 1" bull barrels, you need weight on the heavy hitters.

Re: Encore 44 Magnum???

I like my 44 mag barrel. I have the 10" with sights that I use exclusively for heavy cover, red brush hunts. Recoil isn't any worse than my 629 or my SRH with some HOT handloads either. The 15" barrel set up weighs 4.25 pounds bare, so when you add a base, rings and a scope or dot sight, you're very close if not over 5 pounds. That's alot of metal in your hands. I mostly carry it in the 15" 7mm-08 any more with a 4X M-8 on top, but I just love shooting the real monster, my .444 Marlin and some 300 gr. hot loads. She'll rear up on you definetly, but if you shoot them right (grip) and let them come up on their own, they're easy to handle in any caliber. It's all in the mechanics of how you shoot. I remember when the 30-30 came out. Guys were swearing it was a wrist breaker. I've been shooting one since I was 15 and had no problems because I was taught how to shoot it correctly...

Re: Encore 44 Magnum???

Not that it's worth any more than my opinion, but my favorite hand-rifle caliber for the Contender is the 7-30 Waters. Recoil is manageable (with a scope on the setup) and the round is simply dead accurate. It's a wonderful 200 yard cartridge. Oh....14" barrel.
