My First Kill with T/C Pro Hunter

Monday morning started out wet and miserable but ended a lot better for me up in the ANF. My dad and I both had trouble getting out of bed and motivated to go sit in the rain and I didn't make it to my stand until close to 8am. At 10:30 I saw my first deer coming out of a bottom to my right. When the deer was at 35 yards I noticed antlers and a second deer......another buck. I had just determined that the first buck was not legal and the second was a 6 point and legal when something made them both antsy and they jumped through my shooting lane. They made a half circle around me and I kept loosing track of which deer was legal and which wasn't as they bounced in and out of the brush. They walked away without the hammer ever being drawn back. Then at 11:15 a small doe bedded about 60 yards in front of me. I just watched and relaxed as she laid there nodding off and chewing her cud for about an hour when I noticed her eyes pop open and her ears perk up and point down the hill. When I looked in that direction I immediately saw antlers and didn't have to look to hard to know he was legal. He stepped into my opening at 35 yards and I hate to admit it but I missed.....plain out missed a shot I know I could make with my bow (buck fever is a heck of a thing). The doe was my saving grace though because as I shot she stood up and drew the bucks attention which gave me time to reload. With a second shell in the chamber and the buck only an extra ten yards further I took an extra breath and squeezed off a second shot which hit it's mark. The buck trotted about 40 yards and laid down never to move again. We have owned our camp for 11 years and this is the biggest buck we have killed out of camp to date.
