Re: Any Black powder Cartridge shooters on here

Yep, 25-21 Stevens, 32-20, 40-50 Sharps Straight, 44-40, 45-70, 45-90, 50-70, 577-450, 577 Snider, 58 US Musket.

I use Goex fffg for anything under 45 and ffg for 45 and above. for 45-70 I use 62 grains of powder, a over powder card, a grease cookie and a 500 grain Ideal (Mold No. 457-125) bullet that is supposed to be a copy of the original. For my trapdoors I shoot pure lead bullets, sized to 457 and greased with microcrystaline wax. (The red wax on Gouda Cheese cut with 10% crisco) A buddy uses the same wax melted down with a small amount of olive oil to soften it.

I wipe the bore with a bore cleaner between shots and follow with a dry patch.

Re: Any Black powder Cartridge shooters on here

Hey Zimmer,
You have many rifles shooting Black powder.

I am shooting a #3 Shiloh sporter in 45-70. Strickley for hunting and just to shoot.
I shoot, Mt. Baldy bullets. It is the Lyman copy 457125 style, which weighs about 520 grains, and is lubed with SPG, Cast at 30:1 for hunting. Stoke with 45-70 with 65-70 grains of BP, depending on casing mnf. use a compression die to compress powder over a .030" wad , compress the powder AT LEAST 1/8" . prime with CCI-BR-2's

Your 32-20, what load you shooting out of it? I have a 32-20 win too. But never shot BPC out of it. Also do you use regular Goex or goex express. And if you have, have you noticed any differance between them?

Re: Any Black powder Cartridge shooters on here

The rifle for I have for 32-20 is a BSA small action Martini Australian Cadet rifle. single shot I load with an Ideal tong tool using the original powder dipper and lead bullets.

Incidentally, when I load the 45=70, I have them so loaded up that the top grease groove is still exposed out side the case. I load to the OAL of the 45-90. When I close the breech block of the trapdoor, it pushes the bullet nose beyond the chamber into the rifling. When I close the nutcracker, I can feel the powder compress.

You gonna knock a Kiowa off his pony at 7/8 mile with it?
(Like Billie Dixon at Adobe Walls)

Re: Any Black powder Cartridge shooters on here

Probably not, but I did order the Chambering reamer for a 50-90 from PT&G so I am now committed.
