Cartridge not extracting

Last night I was shooting my 22-250 T/C Encore and the cartridge would not extract. It looks to me as if the extractor is slipping over the brass and not pulling it out when I open it. Has anyone else ever run into this problem?

Re: Cartridge not extracting

Well no I have not, personally. But a few suggestions. Make sure the chamber is clean and free of any crud that could be hanging up the cases. I have seen one instance where a chamber was damaged and the fired brass was hanging up in the imperfections. Make sure your extractor spring and extractor are not damaged or worn out. Also use some pressurized gunscrubber to blast the extractor and the whole area and then scrub it with a tooth brush or brass brush. Good luck.

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

Re: Cartridge not extracting

Hard extraction is usually a sign of over-pressure.

Re: Cartridge not extracting

I'll check out the extractor and spring tonight and give it a good cleaning. Also, I noticed when I close the gun if I do it really slowly it works just fine. I'm thinking there is a problem with the extractor rather than over-pressure or damage to the chamber.

Thanks for the advice.

Yes I have and it was over pressure just like what was previously suggested. How did you get the brass out of the chamber? Was there resistance?

Re: Cartridge not extracting

I used my cleaning rod to push it out. It slid right out with no resistance. I think I'll take it to the local gun shop and have them take a look at it. If it is over pressure is there any fix for it?

Re: Cartridge not extracting

Could factory ammo also have this same problem ? About 1 out of every 4 Hornady silver cases jams . Regular brass cases don't . Took it to a gunsmith and he found nothing wrong with the rifle .

Re: Cartridge not extracting

That nickel coating adds some dimension to the case and is often the cause for extraction issues.

Re: Cartridge not extracting

I am using Hornady Varmit ammo. Maybe I should try a different brand.
