35 Rem Pet loads

I recently picked up a 35 Remington Super 14 contender barrel. I am having a hard time picking a bullet for it. I would like to use the 180 ssp. But with them being discontinued. That's not an option.

I was also looking into the 200gn ftx. However they are not in stock anywhere.

So what I have on hand is some 158 jsp which are going to be pushed to fast from the 35 rem.

I also have some 200gn Hornady round nose. Now with the 14 inch barrel I am afraid I am not going to get to the velocity I need to reliably expand these bullets to my 100 yard max range. I have seen a few good bullet tests on them online and the results don't look good. I might be able to get to 1900fps if I am lucky. Hornady says lowest fps for expansion is 1600fps. Does anyone have any experience with this bullet out of a contender? Or should I scrap it and look for another bullet.

Re: 35 Rem Pet loads

Go with the Hornady .357 Flex Tip 140 Grain pistol bullet and don't look back. Your 14" will kill as good as a .35 Rem Rifle. These bullets are nasty in a 20 inch rifle barrel !!f

You like the 140s over the 200 ftx?

Re: 35 Rem Pet loads

Heavy bullets shoot like soft balls ! When in the woods/fields I am always looking for dogs. Plus fighting the G- Hog !! The carbine weighs 5.2 pounds. Consists of a 14 inch pistol barrel with a Flash suppresser attached (welded) that exceeds the required Carbine length. 3 to 7 power scope. Zeroed at 150 yards, plus 2.1/2 inches at 50 yards, plus 3 inches at 100 yards then 8 inches low at 200 yards.
