what's the best 45-70 single shot

Hello I'm wanting to buy a 45-70gov in a single shot. I was looking at the h&r and the cva elite stalker dose anyone have any experience with either of them I want it to group well at 100 to 150 yards. If there is any other ones that are better please let me know I'm open to all opinions thanks in advance.

I can't say anything about the CVA, but I love my H&R. I handload for it to Marlin lever levels and it makes one ragged hole at about 75 yards. The only issue I have ever had with my H&R is that I had to have the chamber throated as it would not take the 350 grain flat tip bullet without doing so.

I'd look for either a Ruger #3 or a Ruger #1..........depending on your budget. Far and away better rifles than the H&R or CVA.

There are LOTS of them n GunBroker as we speak.

If you're going for "best," as in your title, you should be considering the Winchester and Browning 1885s, and Shiloh Sharps and C. Sharps Arms 1874s.

Ruger #1 if you can find one.

my #1 has a 1-4 leopold on top, can't outshoot the scope! hits a 18"gong at 300 yards with authority,300 gr hornady hollows is what it likes.

Re: what's the best 45-70 single shot

Since much of the factory ammo for the 4570 is reduced loads I would buy a single shot that can shoot the heavier reloads or special 4570 factory ammo.. As you know they sell the reduced loads because some people have the old old old 4570's around.. Hence the Encore can shoot the heavy stuff... I don't know anything about the cheaper single shots.. Just want to pass on my 2 Cents should you desire to use stronger ammo in your 4570.

Ruger #1 can handle heavier loads than any other .45-70 on the market.
