broken A-arm...

isn't fun, in the middle of nowhere.

Am happy I had two trapping partners this week, that walked back to camp. One, owning a tractor, that saved the day.

I've seen them break, get bent. Update them with stronger after market A-arms and protectors. Or weld her back and then I would add some gusset plates

little antlers, we didn't hit a thing. Just staying on trails to check traps. Some spots were rugged, but nothing the machine should handle. Plus we were usually putting along in the woods. We're not kids ripping it

Cabin owner's friend's machine. Said he drives thru thick stuff all the time. Hitting stumps, rocks and logs.
I took a close looksee. A-arm bent & rusted & muddied. The crack...fresh break was only 1/2" long. Rest was already cracked/broken, rusted & muddied over.
Seems we were riding on barrowed time.

Next year, am taking my own machine.

I have 4 Suzuki 4x4 stays at the house to plow snow...the others are for trapping and hunting...I usually have at least one of them down for repairs every trapping season. Last year, I lost the starter on a machine, had the carb jets clog on another. This season I lost the front wheel bearings and a hub on the Eiger, the winch and shifter cable on the Quadrunner. The machines are 18,17,13,and 11 years old. I donít deliberately abuse them, but they do see some rough service. At the end of the season in February I go over them all and do all the required servicing.

I guess thatís why I own four machines....I always have a spare or two.

Bigbrownie, I service my quad & side by side & pickup before trapping

By the way...
At friend's camp- We used his two Bad Boy Buggies. But this day, we wanted to all ride together and took the his friend's Ranger.
So we had 3 machines available, and didn't need my machines.
Just a minor set back, and I had a blast last week with those guys. Caught some fur, did some calling, ate like Kings, slept like a log.
No phone, No computer. Loved it.
little antlers likes this.
