? about atv registration.

I recently sale one of my atvs, I purchased this atv brand new a few years ago. When I bought it I paid to have it registered with the dcnr and received my paperwork and metal tag plate for the atv.

About a month ago I decided to sell the atv, the buyer and myself went to a local notary and did a title transfer to the new owner, everything was legal before they pulled out.

Here's my question, before they left I removed my dcnr tag from the atv just like you would if you were selling a car or any other motor vehicle. Last night the new owner contacted me wanting the old plate so they could register the atv, even said there local atv dealer told them that they prbly couldn't get it registered without the origional plate.

Is this true? I possibly discarded the plate since then, my concern at the time was that if they may have taken the atv somewhere they weren't supposed to and someone got the tag number, that even though the atv ownership was transfered, the individual tag was not and was still on record in my name? And I just didn't want any troubles over it.

My thoughts would be that if the police, game commission, ect were to run the plate number, it would not show the title transfer into the new owners posession until they actually 're-registered the atv into their name.

They seemed like nice people, and I may be over thinking things but in the Times we live in, you just can't be too careful.

Re: ? about atv registration.

I believe the new owner is correct. I was told that atvs are different from automobiles. The license plate is specific to the atv, not the owner and stays with the atv on transfer to new owner.

Re: ? about atv registration.

Just looked it up on DCNR website . Plate & sticker stay with the ATV . New owner is to register it in his/her name . Name on title is responsible for misuse of machine . DCNR may call you for misuse , but you explain that machine was sold and retitled .

Ok, thanks fellas. I looked on the dcnr website but couldn't find specifics about my issue. This is MY bad, I guess that's where assumptions gets you!
