Anyone use a Spot Connect?

I've got 2 trips planned where we'll be far out of phone coverage for an extended period. It makes the missus a little worried...even though my life insurance is paid (and far more than I'm worth alive!). I'm considering the Spot Connect that allows custom texts or posts to email to let everyone know I'm ok. Anyone here have any experience with one of these?

Thanks,
Ramcat

My bil used on for his motorcycle trip to Alaska. It seemed to work good for him just to check in with my sister.

Re: Anyone use a Spot Connect?

I purchased one this past Christmas as I am often alone and out of cell range most of the time.

It has (4) canned functions. The SOS and non emergency buttons continue sending.

You sign in on-line and configure your emergency contacte. Your 'non emergency help info plus two more check in options. The SOS and non-emergency are guarded w/ covers to porevent false activation. There is also a track option [extra per year] that lets you record a route to print out later.

It is not necessary unless it allows a good rebate on the main unit cause it adds $50.00 to the annual $99 subscription fee.

They just introduced the updated Spot3 so there may be some discounts on the older unit.

My only dislike is the on button flashed green. It is too bright when walking in the dark like during spring gobbler. I figure I will tape over it. This spring I walked w/ to on my right bicep facing about 5 O'clock so I don't think it spooked any roosted birds.

I send a got here/ check in message when I arrive at camp and every morning. The other one says 'leaving now'. I have my phone set up to get copies of the text messages and e-mails so I can monitor that it functions when I get in cell coverage.

Speaking of cells they have another product that makes your cell work over the satellites!

I don't need to be that connected!

4th Generation @ Kamp.

3D - There are STILL a few deer left! You need to hunt for them!
