Survive the night

Survive the night: Of all the outdoors seminars offered throughout the area, here's one every hiker, hunter and angler will find useful.

PPL's Martins Creek Environmental Preserve is holding a nighttime survival course 1:30-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. Fred Gast, PPL's naturalist, will cover a variety of topics, including what to do when you are delayed from leaving the woods or trails by injury or becoming lost. Making shelter, fire, finding food and safe water and administering first aid are all on the agenda.

To register, contact PPL at 570-251-6196 or e-mail [email protected].

Re: Survive the night

Does anyone know if this info is available on DVD? I will either be in DC or greeting my new grandson on 9/12!

They did something like this last fall in the north central part of the state. This year its closer to me in the eastern part of the state.

I plan on going, anyone else plan on making it??

Here is some more info.

Planning for an Unplanned Night in the Woods
Saturday, Sept. 12, 1:30-3 p.m.
Cedars Pavilion on Foul Rift Road
Presenter: Fred Gast, PPL

A day hike that unexpectedly includes injury, delays or becoming lost can lead to an unplanned night in the woods. Do you have the knowledge and the kit to cope with this possibility? This skills-based program is for hunters, hikers, Scouts and anyone who spends time in the outdoors. Shelter, fire, first aid, food and water will be discussed. Please dress for the weather. To register, contact PPL at 570-251-6196 or [email protected].

Cedars Pavilion: From Martins Creek-Belvidere Highway, travel 9/10 mile on Foul Rift/DePues Ferry Road to the gravel parking lot and wooden pavilion on your left. GPS coordinates to pavilion: N40 48.184 W75 06.443

Re: Survive the night

Buy a Boy Scout manual. It contains allot of useful camping and survival info. I was involved in Scouting growing up and learned a lot about camping, backpacking, and wilderness survival in Scouts.

Re: Survive the night

Yes I went, It was pretty good. It was geared mostly toward day hikers that get lost and need to spend one unexpected night in the PA woods.
