Experience. Get with someone who knows what they are doing and learn.

Don't Tread On Me is what it says and I'll take that to my grave.

Re: hello all

How old are you? if your still young, the boy scouts is a great place to start. If you are older like keystone said find a person thats into camping and survival. Also you can find a ton of stuff on survival sites, and in books, just start looking. But definetly if you can find a mentor that's the way to go.

A compass, a good knife, and a firestarter are always with me in the woods.

Those 3 things help you the most IMHO

Well, sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes, well, he eats you, so the Dude must abide!

Some feel a flashlight is essential some a luxury,a quality headlamp will leave you in the light and hands free.Just a thought, personally I'm in the essential group.( a red light will not ruin your night vision.)

pullin strings, flingin flies and scraping stones...

So far plenty of leaves this year.

Another day in paradise. God hunts on Sundays.
