Disaster preperation/emergency kits

The recent events in Japan have reminded me to plan for taking care of my family in the event of an emergency.

Here is a link to the NOAA website for a hurricane kit.

I think that the list covers the basics and is a good start.

what do you feel needs to be added? Is the list adequate?

For our northern climate an alternate heat source is a must.

Fire arms for personal protection are a no brainer too.

Having a few tarps would come in handy to use for shelter or emergency home repairs.

Relative to Japan; a tsunami wouldn't happen here, but if a nuclear plant disaster occurred to that extent...... pack the cars and trailer and head west young man, head west!
