MRE question

The events in Japan have convinced me to have few cases of MREs in my basement. Does anyone have any recommendations of a good source? I know that many manufacturers make MREs, but some are better than others. ANy advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Cheaper than dirt always has them...Be sure to stock up on ex-lax, if you eat three a day, they'll plug you up 6 ways from Sunday.

Re: MRE question

Do you plan on leaving your house? If so, I could understand the MRE. If not, develop a first in first out concept of items with long shelf life.

Re: MRE question

I agree with Keystoneman. I might add that you could also start buying freeze dried like Mountain House. Emergency Essentials and Epicenter are good suppliers. I don't consider MRE's to be very good long term emergency food. The avg shelf life can be 5 years or so which isn't terrible but canned Mountain House Freeze dried items last upwards of 20years.

Re: MRE question

They actually aren't too bad overall as long as you don't mind cafeteria food. I use them hunting because they are convenient. I used a chemical heater with one this past archery season in my climber the day I got my buck. I certainly wouldn't want to eat them for more than a few days in a row. God bless our troops !

Re: MRE question

3 per day? at 2800 calories each you wont need that much.

It may be a poor choice of words but I am smart enough to understand what you meant.
