In my own research Sea Arks are the only ones I have seen that run fairly small yet allow for the most weight. War eagles are usually less people then the same size sea ark do to the weight of the war eagle. The trackers at bass pro shop numbers are low as well. I would say you are prob looking a a min of 18 foot and possible 84 to 96 wide. My 1748 sea ark is rated 5 people 1200 something lbs (but I can tell you it is tight and not enjoyable fully loaded).

Re: Persons and weight ratings on Jon boats

A lot is going to depend on the height of the sides? Whether it has decking or weight added in other ways.. My 1756 g3 is 5 or 800 maybe? I wouldn't be surprised if you need to look close to 20 ft.. The weight per person they use is around 160 lbs if I remember.. So if you've got all 200 lb guys in the boat 3 guys will = 4 based on the capacity plate for persons.. Total weight includes everything else so disregard that number if you're worried about people

In order to carry 6 people, gear motor and fuel in a jon boat it will have to be pretty big, both legnth and beam and hopefully high freeboard. Probably have to be at least 16'.

You actually described the older Boston Whaler 16'7" Standard/Montauk and it`s varieties. Biggest little boat ever made. It`s a shame B/W is so crappy now. They died when they left Massechesettes for Florida in the late 80`s.

Re: Persons and weight ratings on Jon boats

you will most likely not find a jon boat to hold 6 people totaling 1200 lbs plus motor and gear etc. could give other suggestions if i knew what your use for the boat would be? Jon boat should have a USCG plate with weight limits. 14 footers are normally around 3 people plus Gear and 16 footers are 4 plus gear. long story short, if you find a jon to hold six people plus gear, it will not be small.
