Search On For Missing Boater Believed To Be Police

WILDWOOD, N.J. (AP) - The Coast Guard is searching for a missing boater after his vessel was discovered unmanned off the coast of Wildwood.

The agency says 39-year-old Jason Sill of Cape May Court House was last seen leaving a marina in Wildwood around 11 a.m. Monday. A Good Samaritan told the Coast Guard he saw the unmanned 23-foot navy blue pleasure craft drifting off the coast of Wildwood.

Responding Coast Guard officers found the keys still in the ignition with the engine in the down position with the throttle forward. Fishing poles were also discovered on the boat.

Prayers go out to the officer’s family. Now they can have some closure. He has a 18 YO daughter and his wife was a police dispatcher for middle Township.
Over the weekend I heard several remarks why he went missing, seems like they were wrong.

WILDWOOD, N.J. - State Police say a body found off the coast of southern New Jersey has been identified as that of a decorated police officer who went missing while boating.

A passing boater found Jason Sill's body around 3 p.m. Sunday in waters off Wildwood. An autopsy was performed Tuesday, but the manner and cause of his death have not been determined.

Sill, a 39-year-old Cape May resident who served with the Middle Township police force, was last seen Aug. 27 when he took his boat out from a marina for a planned fishing trip. Roughly an hour later, another boater found Sill's boat unoccupied in the ocean a mile from shore.

Sill was honored in 2000 for saving the life of an unconscious woman suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.

The real sad thing is no one will ever know what happened in cases like this. Some stupid mistake cost a life.
